iPhone 18 Pro Max & Pro: Specs, Features, & Guide

Apple officially introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 9, 2026, bringing major upgrades to performance, cameras, battery life and Apple Intelligence. Pre-orders began September 12, with availability starting September 18.

For anyone thinking about upgrading this year, the biggest question is simple: what is actually new, and which Pro model makes the most sense?

The iPhone 18 Pro lineup brings Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, a redesigned 48MP Pro Fusion camera system, variable aperture, improved thermal management, longer battery life and storage options up to 2TB.

Here is a closer look at the most important changes.

Starting Price in Canada$1,749 CAD$1,899 CAD

Apple lists both models with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage, and Canadian pricing starts at $1,749 CAD for iPhone 18 Pro and $1,899 CAD for iPhone 18 Pro Max.

1. A20 Pro: Apple’s New 2nm Performance Platform

At the centre of both phones is the new A20 Pro chip.

The chip uses a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple has also paired it with a next-generation vapour chamber to improve sustained performance during demanding workloads.

The biggest practical benefits should show up in areas such as:

  • gaming
  • photo and video editing
  • multitasking
  • Apple Intelligence
  • Siri AI
  • graphics-heavy applications

Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro models deliver major gains in sustained performance, while independent reporting on Apple’s announcement notes graphics improvements of up to 40% compared with A19 Pro.

For most users, the important part is not simply benchmark numbers. The combination of a more efficient chip and improved cooling should help the phone maintain performance for longer without throttling as quickly under heavy workloads.

2. The Camera System Is One of the Biggest Upgrades

Both the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max use a 48MP Pro Fusion camera system.

The rear system includes:

  • 48MP Fusion Main
  • 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide
  • 48MP Fusion Telephoto

The Main camera now includes variable aperture, with aperture settings ranging from ƒ/1.48 to ƒ/4.0. This allows the camera system to adjust how much light enters the lens and gives users more control over depth of field.

The Telephoto camera uses a 100mm equivalent focal length and provides 4x optical zoom, while the Ultra Wide camera offers a 120-degree field of view.

For users who shoot photos and video regularly, this is one of the strongest reasons to consider upgrading.

Apple has also expanded Pro camera controls, including controls for shutter speed, white balance and histogram viewing.

3. Two Sizes: 6.3 Inches and 6.9 Inches

The iPhone 18 Pro keeps the more compact 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, while the Pro Max uses a larger 6.9-inch display.

Both models support:

  • ProMotion adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz
  • Always-On display
  • Dynamic Island
  • HDR
  • True Tone
  • 3000 nits peak outdoor brightness
  • anti-reflective coating
  • Ceramic Shield 2

The iPhone 18 Pro weighs 211 grams, while the larger Pro Max weighs 249 grams.

So the choice is relatively straightforward:

Choose the iPhone 18 Pro if you want Pro-level performance and cameras in a smaller, lighter device.

Choose the iPhone 18 Pro Max if you prioritize the largest display and the longest battery life.

4. Four New Finishes

Apple offers the iPhone 18 Pro lineup in four finishes:

  • Black
  • Silver
  • Glacier
  • Burgundy

Both phones use an aluminum unibody design with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and Ceramic Shield on the back.

The new Burgundy finish is likely to be one of the most visually distinctive choices in this generation, while Black and Silver remain more understated options.

5. Battery Life Is a Major Selling Point

Battery life is one of the biggest improvements in the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

Apple rates the iPhone 18 Pro for:

  • up to 24 hours of typical use
  • up to 36 hours of video playback
  • up to 33 hours of streamed video playback

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is rated for:

  • up to 30 hours of typical use
  • up to 45 hours of video playback

Apple describes the Pro Max as delivering the biggest generational battery-life increase yet for an iPhone.

For people who use their phone heavily for navigation, content creation, social media, work or video, that extra endurance could be more important than raw processing power.

6. Fast Charging and MagSafe

Both models support USB-C charging and MagSafe wireless charging up to 25W.

They also support Qi2 wireless charging up to 25W.

Apple has also highlighted faster wired charging as one of the upgrades in the Pro lineup.

For users moving from an older iPhone generation, the combination of longer battery life and faster charging should make day-to-day use noticeably easier.

7. Storage Now Goes Up to 2TB

Both models are available in:

  • 256GB
  • 512GB
  • 1TB
  • 2TB

For most users, 256GB or 512GB should be sufficient.

The 1TB and 2TB versions are more suited to:

  • professional video recording
  • ProRAW photography
  • large offline media libraries
  • creators who store large amounts of content directly on the phone

8. Connectivity: Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Apple C2

Canadian versions of both the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max include Apple’s C2 cellular modem.

They also support:

  • 5G
  • Wi-Fi 7
  • Bluetooth 6
  • Thread networking
  • second-generation Ultra Wideband
  • NFC
  • USB-C with USB 3 transfer speeds up to 10Gb/s

That makes the iPhone 18 Pro lineup particularly well equipped for high-speed wireless networking and newer smart-home ecosystems.

9. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI

The iPhone 18 Pro models ship with iOS 27 and support Apple’s latest generation of Apple Intelligence and Siri AI.

Apple is positioning Siri AI as a more personal and context-aware assistant, while the A20 Pro and its Neural Engine handle increasingly demanding on-device AI workloads.

This is an area that will likely continue to expand through software updates, so buyers planning to keep their phone for several years may benefit from the additional AI-focused hardware.

iPhone 18 Pro vs. Pro Max: Which One Should You Buy?

For most buyers, the decision comes down to size and battery life.

Choose iPhone 18 Pro if:

  • you want the smaller 6.3-inch design
  • you prefer a lighter phone
  • you still want the full Pro camera system
  • you want A20 Pro performance without carrying the largest iPhone

Choose iPhone 18 Pro Max if:

  • you want the largest 6.9-inch display
  • battery life is one of your highest priorities
  • you watch a lot of video or game on your phone
  • you prefer the larger form factor

Both models share the same core A20 Pro platform and 48MP Pro Fusion camera system, so the Pro Max is not automatically the better choice for every user.

How Much Do the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Cost in Canada?

Apple’s Canadian starting prices are:

iPhone 18 Pro — from $1,749 CAD

iPhone 18 Pro Max — from $1,899 CAD

Both start with 256GB of storage.

Pricing increases depending on storage capacity.

Carrier pricing, financing, trade-in values and promotions can vary, so customers should check current offers before making a purchase.

Is the iPhone 18 Pro Worth Upgrading To?

The answer depends heavily on what phone you currently use.

If you already own a recent Pro-model iPhone, the upgrade may depend on how much you value:

  • longer battery life
  • variable aperture
  • improved camera controls
  • A20 Pro performance
  • Siri AI
  • additional storage
  • improved thermal performance

For users coming from an older iPhone generation, however, the combined improvements to display technology, cameras, battery life, processing power and AI capabilities are much more significant.
